Hi all

I am currently working on my first assignment and have come to a blank!!!

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions on the following would be REALLY appreciated!

Q; How does the therapist interact with the following types of clients during the consultation process?

*Confident

I am thinking that you should use open questions to ensure there knowledge matches their confidence and then advise accordingly......but there is something telling me this isn't correct??
Am I over-thinking about the question? Would this sound right to you??

To me the word "confident" sounds vague. Does it mean general confidence or confident about the recieving a massage compared to someone who is nervous and unsure about receiving a massage. In a real life situation with clients I always get them to fill in a health questionaire to get a sense of their general health and if they have specific problems I ask more questions about it. I always explain what I'll be doing during the treatment and instruct them with what clothing they need to take off and how I want them to lie on the couch.

To me a "Confident" client is someone who is aware of their body and very familiar with massage therapies and how they work for them. They are not afraid to ask questions and be involved with the process of the treatment and after the treatment. This kind of client is actually a joy to work with because while they are involved in the process they take on board your advice and work with you in working out the best possible way for them to get the maximum benefit from their treatment.

While going through the consultation process I find they are very clear and concise with their answers but also be aware that sometimes while they appear very confident just by rephrasing a question or approaching it from a different way will give you a totally different side of the story. I think the most important thing is how confident you feel following your gut instinct if you feel there is something else going on in the back ground ie if they are stressed but not wanting to admit that they are to themselves etc Does this make sense?
