How hard will it be to introduce new rats to my current ones?

Im getting my 2 current rats a new cage. Because its so big its going to look empty, so i want more rats. I want at least 2 or 4 more. I tried introducing them to my last rat (was 2.5 years old), but he would always go for them. They are both about 8 months old. Im trying to find a breeder, but not having much luck, so i may have to get them from a petshop.

Keep looking for a breeder but if you do have to get them from a petshop then get the larger healthiest looking ones they have, make sure you look around heaps to find good ones.
Wash all the rats before you introduce them using the same shampoo (use newborn shampoo or specific rodent shampoo) and them completley clean out the cage with vinegar and make it smell neatral so that its a new enviroment and new smells for all the rats. Make sure there is plenty of food and water and beds for each rat and for the smaller rats i suggest you have some sort of box that only they can fit in so if they need to escape a fight quickley they can. Never touch fighting rats, throw a towel on them and then sperate them.
I suggest you only get two new ones because you dont want too many it could become hard to care for them and expensive.

A good way to introduce rats that will be sharing the existing cage is to put them in your empty bathtub. This is neutral ground with no ratty smells. Usually them you would clean out and disinfect your cage as well as possible. Seeing as they are being put into a new cage, still do the empty bathtub bit (leave them together, supervised, for about 15-20 minutes). Then put them in the new cage, Any accessories that are being used from the old cage should be washed as well as you can. I also like to get a new bed so the new rats have a smell-less territory to hide in if they need to.
