How many Clients???

Hello Everyone,

I would love to do reflexology full time (still training at mo) but I think this would be impossible when you work out how many clients you would need.

I was wondering roughly how many clients does everyone treat a month? Do you also have a full time job? Part time job? Or do reflexology full time?

Im going to keep my full time job for the first year atleast & I aim to treat 12 a month, then I would like to work part time & hopefully get 40 clients per month, does this sound realistic??

This has been discussed alot in other threads, especially the business development forum. Have a read of the ideas and comments posted there, which may give you an idea of how to approach therapy work.

I had a look & although I did find some good advice with other things. No1 actually says how many clients they actually treat!!

I would be really interested to know on busy months & quiet ones?? I know it must vary, shame nobody wants to actually say the numbers, It would be really useful to know?!!!!

Clients vary from week to week. It can be periodical with the seasons.

Very few people make a living from reflexology (at least in my part of the world). Does anyone make a living from reflexology, please reply and prove me wrong?

In the clinic I work in, all the massage & bodywork therapists are trained in reflexology, but we all make our money from massage. I probably do one reflexology treatment for every 20 massages. I often add reiki and reflexology into the treatment as additional skills.

Some people may not talk about how many clients they see due to embrassment or not declaring their income to the tax man!

To make a living from complementary therapies you may have to have a broader level of skills.

Please don't let me put you off, but it is good to be realistic. Having an income from somewhere else helps to support you in your work. Think of it this way, if you are stressed about money and the client comes to you for stress relief, wouldn't this be contradictory to the principles of holistic healthcare?

Just as an added note.

Research in your area to see what other practitioners are doing and what the local population are in to. It can vary from area to area.

I have an event tent I take to horse riding events. Out of all of the events I have covered, only one person asked if I offered reflexology as a treatment (I will have a reflexology trained person working with me next year) but everyone else wanted a body/sports massage.

It does make me feel quite negative, I hate my office job & was hoping to atleast only have to do it part time.

I think I would enjoy being a reflexologist & im surprised its not that popular when there are so many health benefits.

Maybe I will have to think of another career full time & do reflexology on the side. When is the most popular times for treatments daytime, evenings or weekends??

Oh please don't be downhearted. May be you need to reevaluate your ideas. Reflexology is a wonderful tool but I would recommend learning another therapy where feet are not involved. Where one person may love their feet massaged, another person would run away! This will increase your earning potential (also prevents boredom).

This may shock you, but an awful a lot of people out there don't like their feet being touched. Mad I know, but true.

I think so much ill health is caused by work. Following your dreams is far more important! Keep up with the reflexology but keep other options open.

It's been very slow for me too and i'm averaging between 0-2 per week BUT i've not been qualified long and I must admit I haven't pushed myself, I have been VERY lazy.

I'm sure if you are quite driven and are willing to push yourself out there you will be more successful than some other people (like me for instance), I think it also depends on where you live & how many other reflexologists live in your area.

I know of one reflexologist who is mega busy BUT she has been doing it for a long time and started in the days where it was harder to find a reflexologist. Ever since I started training in reflexology i've come to realise just how many reflexologists there are in my area, there is so much more competition now than if you'd of started 10 years ago - then again more people are aware of & open to the therapy than they were 10 years ago but I still think supply outways demand in a lot of areas.

Good luck, if you are interested in it and want to do it you should definately go for it. It may not be an overnight answer to escape your office job but it could be the first step................
