How many of you do massage for more then one place

I am trying my best to be patient. I started my new first job a couple weeks ago and have had one client. I really like the owner and feel pretty comfortable with all the others there. Its super close to home too. I want to give this place a fair shot. They however are new also. At least the spa part is. They have been doing hair in another location for a few years. I am basicaly on call open to close Tue, Thur and Fri. Its a catch 22 because I am tied to my cell and being 15 minutes away but at least I can do housework. (yuck) Someone else works the Wed & Sat shift. That leaves me Mon, Wed and the ocassional Sat to massage somewhere else. I really need to start bringing in a few bucks even if its $100.00 a week. I don't want to short change anyone but I do need to work. How many of you massage at more then one location? Is that unethical of me if its a good 15-20 miles away? I appreciate the feedback. I am bummed cuz I had one booked today and they cancled. Can't blame anyone for not wanting to go out in this monsoon we are having though. My table is there because they haven't bought one yet. I am starting to feel resentful that its not getting any use by me! Anyways thanks for listening.

i'm with pete on this one. take the time to get recognized. be seen. people will wonder who you are. wear a massage therapist t-shirt so they know. put up signs. ask the stylists to promote you...usually they're happy to, sometimes you just need to point it out to them to ask for you.

good luck. it really shouldn't take long to start building. especially if the place itself is busy.

I've done it within 5 miles of places. I don't think it is unethical, as usually you'll get a completely different clientele even in that range.

15-20 miles is definitely not a problem.

Work and make it work for you - otherwise, you'll get distracted and become burnt out very quickly - from lack of work. And that would not be good. Use that M-W-Sat. for another location and see what come of it!

Good luck. Keep on plugging along and it will work. You'll find your niche.

I'm in the same boat as seattlesunshine. I split my time up as an IC at two different locations. One is a day spa, and brings me about 7 clients a week (mostly regulars). The other is a holistic clinic that brings about 2 clients per week. The holistic clinic is starting to feel more like a drain on my time/resources/energy. I have to mantain 2 schedules, 2 sets of equipment, 2 sets of income books, et al . . .

I'm ready to quit the clinic - I love the idea of what it could be, but it isn't fitting into my life very well right now. But I really need the money from those 2 extra massages per week!!!

I work in a few places - it's good to keep my options open. As my private practice grows then I'll drop a few places. Depending on the week I worl 2 to 3 days at a clinic and 1 to 2 days a week at a hotel. I do have days that I have zero clients at the clinic and hotel which is frustraing. Luckily I get paid for being at the hotel regardless of clients plus a small perceneforum.xxxe. At the clinic I only get paid if I have a client and like you I'm on call which means I really can't go too far from home or relax. Also if I'm needed I'll work occassionally work a few hours at a spa and a beauty salon. I set up working for myself earlier this year but don't have enough clients of my own. With each of these various places I work at I will give clients my business card. You've got to do what's right for you and hey you've got to be able to eat and pay bills.

If you're an employee, you should be getting paid for your on-call time.

Keep in mind there is no legal obligation to pay employees to be on site. As an employee you can legally work for 100% commission.

So, if someone is a 100% commission based employee and does only ONE massage in an entire week, but they've sat around the salon for 30 hours in that week, they should be entitled to more than just their % for that one massage if that % is less than 30hrs X MW. Right?

Pete, you do have a valid point....but.....if you've sat around at a salon for 30 hrs and only done one massage, then it's time to find a new place to work! Or perhaps time to rethink your marketing strategies???

I am working on giving all the stylist massages. Its all trades with other employees so its free for them. Which is fine by me because I know they will be great at passing the word along. I am not paid for being oncall which I think is fair caz I am not sitting there. So I may be sitting around 30 hours but at least its at home. The owner is getting some fliers made up to put in the health club above us too so that should help. Its all good, I am just anxious to use my skills. I will absolutly give it some time. How much? I don't know yet. We'll see how it goes. I have pretty good instintincts so I think I will know shortly what the prospects are there.
