How much to charge?

May I ask what people consider the going rate is per session. I seem to seeing anything from about £25 - £40 and do you charge more for the initial session as there needs to more time for getting medical details etc.

Hi Nell,
I have just started out in private practice. Originally I set out to charge £30 per session. I have had no response from my literature so I have decided to put out vouchers with £10 off for first session. It could be a good idea to gather up any literature in your area from other therapists to see what rates they are charging. In my business studies we were taught to not undercut other therapists and to pitch at a resonable rate. I feel vouchers are a good incentive to encourage potential clients to test out therapy. For the clients that I do have I play it by ear depending on what they want. Once client wanted weekly sessions but had financial concerns so I was happy to drop my rate to £20 per session. I run a case study scheme where I charge clients £10 less if they are happy for me to use their treatments as case studies for future publishing. I also do a block of four treatments for £99 so £20 over four weeks only lost me £19. I hope this proves useful.
