Well, I'm ready to get out there and start my practice...however, my only option at this time would be on an outcall basis.  Basically to introduce myself and meet potential clients.  I live in a great little community and was thinking of putting up a flyer at our library advertising this.  I just have no idea what to charge and if the flyer would be a good idea ?? Do I make a "special" offer for my outcall services?  What precautions would I need to take??  Does anyone have any advice?  I'm a mom of 4 and am only looking to work weekends and a couple evenings until summer.  Also looking at setting up a chair massage event at our farmers market once a week.   Thank you!!JoJo

I would find out what the going rate is for massage in your area, and tack on a trip fee on top of that. I began as an outcall business only, too. I didnt start out charging a fee, but I do now. People seem to think if youre not charging the extra fee, that youre not that good. that has been my experience around here. yeah its hard to say what to charge. here in atlanta iv seen people charging any where from 45hr to 95 hr  and those are for incalls

Congratulations on your new venture!Personally, I think your "trip fee" should be $20.  That is on top of the massage charge.  Just my two cents.If you do a search on the boards for "out calls", "mobile massage", "hotel" and probably "travel", with paramaters of about 400 in the last two fields, you probably will come up with a good amount of info.I encourage you to also put the links to the topics you find on this thread, in order to help someone else looking for this info.   Also, if you can let us know what the fees are in your area, maybe we can come up with some more ideas for you.Plus, this will give us all a better jump off in order to help you.

The libraries in my metro area won't allow me to post a flyer on my business. They only post about upcoming events like festivals, races, etc. They even have a "no soliticing" sign out front so I guess they consider any business trying to draw clientele from the library a no-no. Maybe the laws are different where you're located. Sure hope so! Best of luck to you on it.Be well,Jen

Thank you to everyone who responded...I've had many great ideas come my way.  I didn't know about the "trip fee" before.  What if a client lives in the same neighborhood as you, or at least a couple miles...would you add on some other kind of fee?  Also, have any of you found that it is best to stick w/one fee and not fluctuate on a "special" or "introuctory offer"?  As this may keep them from coming back at the regular charge??  To Jen,  yeah, our library here doesn't stipulate about flyers or soliciting.  They have a community bulletin board where many post ads, business, etc.  But thanks for bringing it to my attention as I will be sure to inquire before hand.  Thanks again to everyone, and hope to hear more...JoJo

even in the same area you should charge for an out call still 20 extra. because your still having to pack up and un pack your table and supplies. iv never done an outcall decided not to when i started my company

I've stopped doing outcalls simply because it's a hassle having to pack up the table and whatnot. When I did do outcalls, I charged a $25 fee for anyone in-town. In the neighboring cities, it was $35, and travelling out-of-town was depending on mileage, time of travel, etc. I've driven 2 hours on multiple occasions to give a massage, and charged $100 on top of my regular massage fee. Don't feel bad about charging extra! Lugging that table gets tiresome, so get what you're worth!
