How old is to old to introduce a new cat?

I have a 14-15 year old cat that lost his kittyhood companion a couple years ago. Would it be a good idea to introduce a new cat to him at his age? He's never really had any major health problems. He's just a regular black alley cat and he's still pretty active with his toys and still runs around the apartment.
I'm just worried it might be to much of a shock to his system.

You never know how he will react, but in the long term it will be good for him. Your black cat might get upset at first, but will undoubtedly enjoy the companionship later on.

It depends on how he acts towards other cats as will it the newer cat you purchase. If you do want to get another cat, adopt an older (about 5-7 years), friendly, more docile one. Perhaps one that sleeps a lot? A cat like this will most likely not cause much stress towards your old cat.
