How to answer phone?

If you don't have a company name, and you just use your full name how do you answer your phone? I plan on doing outcalls, and planned on just using my name like my instructor does. It got me wondering how would you answer your phone though? A simple hello just doesn't seem right for the situation.

I answer it as "Hello, this is Muriel" I also have most of my clients phone numbers programed into the phone, so I can see their name pop up... and then I say "Hello, George! how are you?" One of my clients laughs at that, because she forgets that I have her number programed...

I do the same. I answer, "Hello, this is Shiva." I do have all my clients names saved in my phone, but I don't answer as if I know it's them. To me, that seems a little too personal. Maybe I'm just being extreme with my boundaries? Hmmmm....this is making me think it over. Perhaps I'll try it and see what the reaction is.

I say "Hello, this is Tiffany, may I help you?"

I have numbers programmed too but I never say anything. It sort of annoys me when ppl do that to me so I don't do it. lol

OR, for the answering machine,

"Hi, this is me. You've reached my answering machine because I'm either in with a client, or, out of the office on business. So that I can better serve your needs, please, rather than hanging up, select one of the following options: 1] to leave a message or schedule appointments, 2] to learn hours for appointments and services offered, 3] for gift certificate and service pricing

For those of you who are calling on a rotary dial phone, this message repeats after a short pause, when the phone beeps you may leave a message then. Thank you for calling and remember, Massage Works!"

I answer my phone "This is Ivy" but now I'm wondering if that sounds sort of, well, rude? Perhaps I should be more cheery & say "Hello, this is Ivy" instead?

I used to answer my phone with my company name, but when I started working for the spa, I would occasionally get calls from people who were not my personal clients, and started just using my name.

I usually don't ask if I can help them. If I couldn't help them, I wouldn't answer the phone. I just say, "Hello, this is Matt."
