My family has recently taken in a new kitten, a small black female - 10 weeks old. However, my older cat, a 14-year-old male ragdoll cat is obviously not happy with the new addition (understandable). We have taken all of the precautions necessary to introducing a new kitten into the house, and although the two cats are now capable of roaming the house on their own without any major problems, it seems my older cat, Dakota isn't acting like himself. He hides in his 'spots' throughout the house almost all day, and although he accepts our constant attention, he doesn't seem to actually enjoy being petted or cuddled like he used to. The ragdoll breed is a very docile breed that loves attention and being handled, and up until recently he has always lived up to his name. We brought my dog Bailey into the house about 9 years ago when Dakota was 4, and although he wasn't to happy at first, we never got a response like this.
I guess I'm just wondering if I'll ever have my old kitty back, whether or not we keep the kitten. I've grown attached to her and would like to keep her but if need be, I will find a new home for her if it is the only way to get my Dakota back.
Opinions/personal experience/stories welcome.
