How to introduce new dog to household with other pets?

We are going today to see and possibly adopt a new dog. He's 3 yrs old and a boxer.
I have had 3 boxers throughout my life.
I now have a Rat Terrier named Bailey that is 7. He is GREAT with other dogs, big and small.
However he is timid at first, may growl, bark, and show his teeth..... But after a little while he gets used to them and will play.
I am nervous about meeting this new dog. We are going to the shelter to rescue him (first rescue :) )
Im only nervous because I dont want the shelter people to think my dog will be like that all the time with this new one. The way he reacts will either it make it or break it.
Any advice? We really want this dog, the second I saw his picture I fell in love and just felt that he would be right in our family. I've been looking for over a year and right now, this dog seems right.
