How to introduce new lovebird to lovebird at home?

I have been keeping a lovebird for about 1 year and decided to get him/her a partner so that he/she would be less lonely.
I bought the new lovebird today and he seemed really timid. He/she is about 3 months old and is very afraid. However, my other lovebird is very bold and inquisitive. I'm afraid that my older lovebird would attack the younger one because of the difference in their temperament.
Is this common?
How do i make them get along?
Please help! Thank you! ^^
