How to setup Video Chat if Text chat is working?

I am trying to setup my new cell phone (MyTouch G4) through Messenger to video chat with a friend on a PC. We both installed messenger, and we can text chat back and forth, but the video portion doesn't seem to work. Looking for some guidance on what we might be doing wrong. Both the mobile and the PC appear to be calling out, but it never makes it to the other end.
