how would you introduce yourself to someone new?

"Er, hello (long pause) I don't know what to say, really. In fact, if you don't mind, I'll go and hide in t he corner with my iPod and stay out of everyone's way. I think that's better for everyone, don't you?"
i have said something very similar to that. i dont do social stuff...

Well, usually when I meet new people I'm with a friend or with my boyfriend who knows I'm not very social. Last time, when I was at my bf's cousing's house, a girl walked in while my boyfriend was out and was like "And what's your name?" so I told her and my boyfriend's friends were like "yea, that's JT's girlfriend, she's really cool" but for the most part I stayed off to the side minding my own business.

I'm a very sociable person and love to talk to new people
I just say something like "Hi, I'm pam. Are you having as good/bad a time as I am? What brings you here? What's that you're eating/ drinking? Where did you get your dress/shirt? " Blah blah blah
I'm a natural talker so never run out of crap to spout...

I know what you mean. I don't do the social stuff either, but usually I'll wait for someone to introduce themselves and then I'll keep the conversation going. I usually say stuff like " Hey my name is Stephanie, what's your name?' stuff like that and just use topics to keep the conversation going.

I'm not social either and always very quiet. but when i pull my courage up to talk to someone I usually say something simple like "Hi, I'm Katherine. How are you?" and see where the conversation goes from there.
