Hydrocollators

At the clinic where I've worked we have one of those huge floor model hydrocollators that holds many of the oversized hot packs. I am used to using the oversized ones, that is the size I prefer.

At my new office, I've been heating one of the oversized packs in my hot stone warmer. Not the most efficient but it's the best I have for right now. I am looking to buy a proper unit. The E1 unit is more in my price range and the space available but it holds 4 of the standard sizes. Has anyone ever been able to fit one of the oversized packs in one of this size units?

Also, we leave our floor model on 24/7 since it takes hours to heat up. If you have one of the smaller units, do you leave it on all the time? If not, how long does it take to heat up?

I have worked with the E1, E2, and the great big M4 unit.

For anyone who wants to look at the units, here is the Chattanooga link.

I don't have any oversized heat packs anymore to test in an E1 unit, but you could probably call Chatanooga and ask them.

I do know that the E2 takes the oversized ones, as that is what I used in my office for many years. I really liked it - much better than an E1. But, if you get the E2, I highly suggest placing it on a roller table. Because once you fill it with water, you can't lift it. And, when you make your water changes, you want to be able to move it around easily.

I believe you are limited on space in your new place and the nice thing about the E1 (if you don't already know), is that you can easily place it on a counter. But, if you plan on putting it on a rolling cart anyway, I'd suggest the E2, since a rolling cart will most likely not be small enough to only fit an E1, but more likely large enough to fit either the E1 or E2.

If I were to go with hot packs again, I'd probably look at one of the smaller wheeled ones. Something like the SS2 and check to see if it can take the oversize.


I can't recall how long it took for that little E1 to heat up, but I want to say it was about 2 hours.

I've got the E-1, and I set the timer to have it turn on one hour before my first client. I usually use hot pacs on the back, and I start the client face-up, so it really gives the unit 90 minutes to warm up.
I don't think you'd be able to put any larger pacs in the E-1.
