hysterectomy

Hi one of my regular clients had a hyserectomy and has not been to me for a while, anyway she phoned a couple of days ago wanting a reflexology treatment on friday. I am not sure as it is suppose to be 6 months after surgery before you can have reflexology.
It has been a month since her sergry would she need a G.P concent or would it be alright for he to have a treatment??
any advise would be great.

Hi,

The Association of Reflexologists list of contraindications says that after surgery reflexology treatments can be helpful once signed off or with permission from the surgeon.

I think it is about 6 weeks before they are 'signed off' so it should be OK soon. Six months would be too long to wait after her body has gone through stress of the operation. She need treatment as soon as is possible I think.

Tell us how it goes and what reaction you get from the uterus area. Remember the brain will not know there is no uterus anymore, but you should be gentle with the area for the time while healing takes place. What reactions did you get before the operation?

Reflexology encourages the body to heal itself, so she needs to be having her treatment now to help her body recover.

Not to perform reflexology OVER a small scar for 6 months, or to a site of mojor surgery for 2 years. So unless she had a hysterectomy through her foot I would think it would be ok to help her through this healing period if she feels up to it and is not having any worrying effects such as might need permission from a doctor. If you still don't feel comfortable treating her get a consent form signed by her G.P. or specialist. I would not be afraid to help her now, this is probably the best time to help her body to heal and balance.

I'd give her the treatment. Now is the time she will need it most and especially as she is requesting it, she obviously enjoys it and knows the benefits.

I'd go easy at first on the related reflex points and focus on giving a relaxing treatment for the first few. She probably needs a bit of relaxing pampering after the op.
