I.H.M conrianidications

Hi, i had a lady who i gave a reflexology treatment to, well now she asked about indian head massage but i am not sure about giving her a treatment as she had a bouble heart bypass in 1999 and she is on 7 diffrent kinds of medication, as heart conditions are one of these containidications for I.H.M what shhall i do turn her away or get a G.P permission or go ahead with the treatment??

Hi Froggy.
I would play it safe and get GP advice before you go ahead, just to cover yourself, but if she is well I don't see why you couldn't treat her with GP permission. Maybe you could tone down the treatment and make it less stimulating for her so you don't put her heart under too much pressure.

i would not turn her away but explain that because of her condition you have to get GP permission.

I dont think i would feel comfortable doing the treatment without it.

I'm glad I've found this post as I'm in the same situation! I don't want to turn the client down as she really wants IHM. Would I be best calling her Doctor or getting her to ask permission? I've had no luck with letters in the past.

I am a great believer in adults taking responsibility for their treatments so i would ask her to discuss it with her doctor and then get her to sign that the doc has agree to her having the treatment. Many doctors won't respond to therapists or will simply say its up to the patient and imo thats a conversation the doc and patient should have
