It started as an out there thought, but then it actually started happening and now it has. I spent some money and hired a film maker who edits as well. The project wasn't so expensive but it did cost.
I made a joint DVD visual resume with my colleagues and we spread the cost out evenly between us. Since we all work at the same location it was just a matter of mixing and matching in the editing room to create each piece as seperate yet together as some images were the same.
We work with dancers and they were more than willing to help as models. I was very careful to include a mix of male and females so it didn't look any other way than it should. I also made the piece to focus on us all, yet highlighting myself and my colleagues individually on their own piece. The DVD presentation not having an egocentrical feel was also a big concideration for me. I'm over all that stuff I hope.
I am lucky over here in the way of producing because I get them copied in Hungary which is only an hours drive away and each unit only costs me a little less than 50 cents. Life is much cheaper over the border as Austria is a wealthy country.
I have the option to give to clients who perhaps might pass it on as a visual referal? As yet unproven so can't add more.
When I speak about business with someone far distant I can introduce myself in a novel way.
I don't think I would concider working for someone else again, but if I did, I realize that every other applicant will be giving paper resumes. Mine would stand out and hopefully be more memorable.
Perhaps there are other options to market this that I haven't thought of?
It's all about throwing ideas and seeing which sticks.
Perhaps the younger, just starting therapists could make a cheaper version using a camcorder and a friend with some talent. Everyone knows someone. Make a piece you could present proudly and who knows you could stand out next time you need to.
Hope it helps
