I just introduced my rats and they seem to be fighting?

I have an old rat which is about 4 months old and then i just got a new baby rat that is about 6 weeks old. I just introduced them today into my old rats cage. I cleaned the cage out and moved everything around in it so my old guy couldn't be all macho. The younger one is really shy. My old one is super friendly with everyone but again the young one isn't. Once i put the young one in the cage he went straight for the igloo and hasn't come out, and when ever my old one goes in they seem to fight. I don't know how to stop this. I'm not sure if they are fighting, no blood has been shed but they give off loud squeaks for a minute, then the young one is put to his back and they stop.Somebody please tell me what should i do. ((also my older rat keeps leaving the igloo every time after a fight and will go back in after about a minute.
Um i don't know if this is normal, but my young rat finally came out of the hut and then my old one just like pushed him into a corner and like held him there

I had several rats growing up. They were very smart and I even taught one how to fly, well she could jump about 5 feet across and wore a cape so it looked like she was flying. I have also had mice and mice smell way worse than rats. rats are fun. I would suggest a female, but once you get one you cannot add others to the cage, they will kill each other. I would suggest getting two female rats so they can keep each other company, they also like to clean each other. good luck and do lots of research before you take any life into your hands!

Also just separate them!

Yeah thats perfectly normal. My rats did the same thing when I introduced the babies to the old resident. No big deal. Don't worry unless one of them squeaks Extremely loudly, and I mean EXTREMELY. Other than that, no prob. They're going to get on just fine.

When the old guy puts the baby on his back is is a show of dominance. This is totally normal, so is the squeaking. They play fight and the squeaking is the losers way of saying "I give up".

One question I have is did you give them time to play and get to know each other before you put the baby in the big guy's cage? If this is the first time they have met it may take longer for them to adjust.

If the little guy is shy he will continue to hide in the igloo until he feels safe in his new environment. This should not last too long. He may continue to hide for a week or two. Just give him time and before long your boys will be the best of friends.
