Hello all,It's been quite a while since I last posted...But this is something that has been on my mind for some time now.Several months ago I had a client who I know is a Reiki master. After her first session with me, as she was leaving she mentioned that she needed to rest and collect herself (as many of my clients do after a massage) before she drove home. Fine, she did and rescheduled a few days later. During the intake of the next session she said that she felt like I "left her floating" after the first session. She inquired as to my energy training and what style I use. Well...as I've mentioned here before I've really only had basic energy training since I was a therapeutic student at a Polarity based school. For this second session I was sure to set my intentions and reamain very aware of her needs throughout the session. I also did a closing move that I learned in school and don't always do anymore (holding lft hand over 3rd eye and right hand at sacrum -- silently say a wish/prayer/afermation for the client -- and pull my hands traight up).Several days later she casually mentioned to the owner (where I rent) that I had "stolen" her energy. He has no real awareness of "energy" and jokingly laughed it off and said "Oh, so do you want it back?" and I guess she very seriously said "Yes, I do". Then she told him that she wanted to perform (in his words) some sort of energy cerimony on me... ???Now I assume that she wants to attune me. I'm not so sure how I feel about this. She hasn't called to re-schedule and I haven't called her either. I really didn't know what to say to that, so I've just left it alone. Should I have called her at least? I have a friend who I want to do my Reiki training with, so I'm not so sure if I want this lady atuning me too?Also, I had heard that you really can't steal someones energy. My assumption is that you can give away energy that is not serving you. It seems that if I were to "steal" someone's energy I would have to be conciously taking it and I have no intentions at all of stealing anything from anyone. I do clear the room (silently) after each client and ask that any energy that was released in the room be returned to the universe for "recycling".Sorry so long, but I'm not good at keeping in short! :-/Any words of advice are appreciated :-*

Graci, This lady has way too much time on her hands.  You didn't steal her energy!  With her negative intentions, I wouldn't let her put her hands on me! There are definitely negative people in this world who have negative energy.  The good energy for Reiki comes from the Universe.  It isn't saved like money, as a personal possession.  Tell her to go ground and meditate in the woods and her energy will return.  It could be that her energetic problems may be related to a blockage of her own that she needs to work on.  It has nothing to do with you.  If you would like to learn a little about Reiki, try "Reiki" by Carmen Fernandez.  It is simple to read and has lots of pictures. I have only received Reiki I attunement, but even with that, it was stressed that the Universal energy you call on is all good. The client will receive what they need and are willing to receive. If she felt drained, its most likely something going on with her personally. She may not be setting good boundaries for herself, etc, in other aspects of her life & then becomes acutely aware of it when she unwinds during a session. Maybe she just had to blame someone/something. I find it a HUGELY unprofessional of her to have told the owner what she did. And I find it very refreshing that the owner responded the way they did! ha. It might be best that she stopped booking/calling. Maybe (hopefully) she's tending to her needs. Personally, I would not seek that person to give me my attunement. I'm not judging her ability, but I would always wonder if there were a clouded agenda on her behalf, after all that.Jill/Sagetherapist

Being a "Reiki Master" does not mean anything anymore.  It takes little effort to become one.  I have been attuned 2 times and have had many numerous workshops in other healing work, try and do all the right stuff, but would never dream of calling myself an expert in any of the energy work modalities.  To think that a "Master" could let a "fleldgling" steal her energy seems pretty fishy to me.  So, to call oneself a Master, requires a lot more than 4 weekend workshops (as that is all that is needed nowadays).

I'm interested in finding out how anybody could steal another's energy.  It certainly wasn't part of any Reiki studies that I was taught.    No Reiki Master knows everything.  I've been practicing for three years and learn something new every day.  Medicineman RM/T

Graci, I think it was actually cruel of her to characterize your best intentions for her well being as some sort of "theft". I agree with Jill's perception that she had an agenda, but personally, I think it was more direct than clouded. I might wonder if that person wasn't trying to throw me into some sort of confusion, to inhibit my focus and disturb the beneficial effect I intended.As Medicineman wrote, Reiki energy is Universal. Not something saved as a personal store. And as Jon wrote, I would question her basic understanding of what it means to be a Reiki Master.  I doubt a Reiki practitioner, never mind Master, would ever see intended blessing as a theft of energy.  :Gi

Thank you all for your responce... Glad to hear that my suspicions were correct. I really didn't think it was possible for me to "steal" anyones energy.It's funny, when we first met she said that my space had a wonderful energy to it and she felt that I had good energy. One of her first questions to me was about my energy training. I told her about my limited knowledge of Polarity and Chakra meditations. I think that she picked up on the "limited training" part of the conversation and thought that she had hooked a student. The other MT I work with mentioned that this lady does Reiki training for CEU's. I don't really now the validity of that since I haven't researched her. At this point I would have no interest in training with her anyway. I think Jill is correct, very unprofessional to have gone to the owner with this story. Most people find me to be very approachable, she could have told me herself, and should have told me. After all I'm the only one that could do anything about it, not the owner! I'm surprised that he even told me about. The only reason he mentioned it was because he thought it was a strange conversation. He was very confused  You're right Jon_O!!! If she's such a "master" how did she let someone steal her energy. I guess the "force" was not with her that day! I just hope that she doesn't slip over to the dark side...(sorry, I've been watching a lot of star wars recently since the new film came out)But seriously, I mean her no ill will. Even with the reported theft of energy I still have good intentions toward her. I don't think badly of her and if she did come in for another session I would gladly work with her and set my intentions for health and wellness for her. It is my wish that she recieves all the goodness that the Universe has to offer...and may it be so. :-*

I have a little bit of experience with Reiki and from what I understand, there can be a transferrance of energy between the 2 people.  The most likely explanation would be the previous statement that she was ungrounded.  No worries, with Reiki you can do no harm.

You know 2trees, now that you mention it maybe it was a power struggle. More from our conversation than from the massage itself.  ???Bare with me now - I'm sort of thinking out loud here - We did have a short conversation about my first Reiki session with a friend of mine. I told her that prior to the session I had never even heard of reiki (this was before school, so I really didn't know about the concept of energy work or chakras either). About halfway into the session I started to focus on colors and flashes of light that I saw while my eyes were closed. I saw a purple/violet swirl of light that just kept swirling and swirling, getting bigger and smaller closer and further away. I was intrigued by the swirl so I told my friend about it after. She explained to me that this is a symbol that she tries to project to her client. Since then I see the symbol throughout Reiki symbols, which I think (correct me if I'm wrong) pertains to the third eye.Anyway, I'm thinking that maybe she perceived my telling her this story as stealing her energy. Maybe she thought that I was trying to put myself in a higher place than she, because I have no Reiki training and could see and feel the Reiki symbol. My point in telling her the story was to express that I'm interested in all things energy related, not to make myself out to be gifted or "the one".  Maybe she doesn't get it and is really just doing it for the power trip. I wonder if sometimes in letting people know that I'm well trained and competent that this can come accross as arrogance or conciet which in turn can give the sense of stealing power or energy. Maybe I'm just reaching now.Like I said "thinking out loud". Make of it what you will. I'm just very curious of what it all means anyway.

I've been a Reiki Master for quite sometime and studied thoroughly just about every modality offered. I've never once run across someone even remotely mentioning you can steal another person's energy. It also doesn't make sense that you could "steal" energy and it definitely doesn't make sense that you could steal it from another Reiki practitioner. The universal energy can't be depleted... it's endless.What does make sense is that she's feeling a little light-headed after a Reiki Treatment. That's a normal reaction to having a higher vibratory rate of energy running through you. It's why in Reiki courses they teach the Practitioners to give their clients time to recover and to sit up slowly and remain seated for a few minutes after. Even to offer them a glass of water to help them reground.As a practitioner, you have to make sure you are grounded and shielded so you don't take on the other person's ailments, learn to shake away negative energy as well.It's also highly reccommended to learn how to balance out the energy within your client. I've noticed, especially with children, that if the energy isn't balanced within them, they will sometimes acquire a fever afterwards. This is the result of all of their chakras not being opened yet. (Not all chakras are yet opened during formative years.)People don't even have to attend workshops nowadays to acquire a Reiki Master's Certificate. They can acquire them free online! Without any type of knowledge whatsoever or as a part of an individuals personal beliefs being passed on... some of these beliefs being where people can be energy vampires towards others they don't like and other such nonsense. I'm afraid I'd need validation.Reiki energy as well as any other energy I've experienced and I'm not implying I've even come close to experiencing them all.. but those I have work on a very positive, unconditional love premise. Considering that scientifically, when you are negative, this impairs your ability to run energy as fully as when you are positive...There is a great website online, where anyone can acquire honest, extremely informed-detailed information in regards to Reiki. The online classes are inexpensive, I personally took the course online just as a means of furthering my education and validating for myself that long distance healing and attunements truly work.I think maybe your intuition was telling you to be wary of this person... she probably means well, is just malinformed or has more self work to do... winksGood luck!
