...conscription just to test it out? I mean, we all know that those "sissifed" European countries would have a tantrum if their governments ordered them to serve in the armed forces (oh, wait, Norway has the draft, so do Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Moldova, Greece, Bosnia, Austria and Belgium), so we shouldn't focus on them, but we often hear in America, particularly from a certain class of Yahoo posters that Europeans are limp-wristed "euro-weenies," who are unwilling to fight. Why don't we see how willing the majority of Americans are at fighting and how much tougher we are by bringing back the draft? Wouldn't our eagerness to be inducted confirm how much manlier we are than those cowardly continentals?
My point is that if much of Europe is populated by effeminate, "euro weenies," why do these "cowards" allow themselves to be drafted instead of burning draft cards, rioting, etc. like so many Americans did when we had the draft?
No, we have registration for the draft, not actual conscription at the moment, which was abolished in 1972. We also had conscription in peacetime as well.

I don't think it would prove much myself, especially since a certain 'other' class of Yahoo posters are the type who would run off to join the Peace Corps, flee to Canada, etc. to avoid military service.

Whom would you rather go up against -- Someone who was drafted and told to go kick your tail, or someone who gladly volunteered to do it?

It's simple really.


We have a "volunteer" military. Meaning they really want to be there.


And since our population is over 300 million, we do not have enough positions for everyone that would have to join.

I like that we can volunteer vs being drafted.
It's better to have people that want to be there, then a bunch of sissy whiners who will most likely not do the job right and be a drag on moral.

What do you mean "bringing back the draft"? America still has the draft and always has. It just hasn't been used since Vietnam. We have a large enough volunteer service to handle our wars right now. Maybe if WW3 started, we would start drafting.

No objection from me. I started my military career as a draftee. However, the bleeding hearts and arrant cowards will just whine and cry, or else run away, leaving only true patriots behind to serve. Then, when some equally bleeding heart President pardons the cowards, they will come back, like hogs to the trough and swill themselves silly while they bad mouth those that actually served.
