Sorry, but I agree with the others on this one! This was my post to another thread about problems contacting the IFR. I too had learnt my Reflex course using the Renee Tanner book etc., so was encouraged to join the IFR. See my original quote below:
"I too have had such bad treatment from the IFR who were recommended by my training school.
When I joined the membership card came through and was just a pink piece of typed-on card, put through a laminator and trimmed to size - not very professional looking! I asked and paid for a pin badge, which when it arrived was a little cartoonish and again not very professional looking, so I didn't use it.
About 6 months down the line, I started getting 'e' mails asking me for my renewal fee for this year's membership. I wrote back explaining that I had already paid for this year and next years wasn't due yet. A few weeks later I had some more mails saying the same thing. So I scanned my certificate of membership and membership card and 'e' mailed it back to them as proof. Then guess what...! Yep another nagging mail! I tried ringing them and got through to a human being who was apologetic and said there was a glitch with the system and it looked as though I had two membership entries on their computer. He would delete the incorrect one so I shouldn't have any more nasty mails.
About a month down the line, I had yet another nasty mail informing me that if I didn't pay my membership, I would have it terminated. Fine I thought, carry on, as I don't want to be associated with such a disorganised bunch anyway! Even if they are volunteers as is mentioned in their mails. Needless to say I left and joined the FHT meaning I had to change all my business cards and advertising to reflect this.
Since joining the FHT, I had a professional looking pack turn up very quickly at my door, complete with credit card style looking membership card and professional looking pin. I now have my insurances with them as they offer discount when you are a member. They also have professional looking leaflets in lots of different therapies and other offers and a quarterly magazine which I love, with interesting artlcles etc.
I would say talk to other practising therapists recommendations before just picking some organisation to run with. After all we are the ones that have put in the hard work, so we deserve professional back up".
I'm almost of the opinion seeing so many others having problems that the IFR should be reported to the trading standards office!
