IHM taster session - query

Good evening!

I've been asked if I'd like to carry out 10-minute taster IHMs at a pampering evening being organised at a village hall. I have to pay the organiser £10 and then I can charge £5 for the sessions.

I am newly qualified (VTCT Level 3) and have not carried out any IHMs since my assessments way back in December 2006 and, at the moment, am not planning to trade. I was wondering firstly, should I be getting insurance if I agree to do the pampering evening. Secondly, how I do reduce a full IHM to 10 minutes but make it relaxing, enjoyable and the client wanting more?

I have read other posts on similar events and have got the tips on how to make the massage as 'real' as possible whilst also using the opportunity to gain future business.

I would have insurance if charging money and dealing with the public. Personally if I was the organiser, I would ask to see it.

Yeh, you can reduce IHM to 10 minutes, here's two ideas:

Firstly, you can ask is there is a problem (i.e. neck and upper shoulder tension) and focus on that issue.

Secondly, a quick routine: rubbing shoulders and upper back, then the neck up and down several times. Then a bit of hair and scalp work and finish back down to the shoulders. Cut out facial, shoulder mobilisation, upper arms, chakra balancing, and lifting the arms and shoulder together.

If the client wants more, get them to book an appointment for a longer treatment.

Thank you very much for your advice! I'll get some insurance as I don't want to take any chances, especially if people aren't up-front about any medical problems. The short routine sounds good - thanks for that. I'll need to practice it but I think just doing these short taster sessions will help build my confidence.

Just to say thanks again for the advice. I did the pampering event and was busy all night! It boosted my confidence no end. I had a lot of people interested in having future IHMs but, as yet, no calls. I am hoping to do another event soon, and am also planning one for my daughter's pre-school as a fundraiser.
