Hello,

I would like to study Indian head massage & have always wanted a treatment, my issue is that I have hair extensions.

Can you perform Indian head massage on people who wear weaves, have dreadlocks or hear extensions.

I'd say yes, although the treatment would need to be tailored to suit each case, something we do as therapists anyway so no problem there.

Well established dreadlock might limit access to the scalp but the shorter funky dreds would be fantastic to work with. Hair extensions, if in plaits or twists, maybe wait until they need renewing when there will be some natural hair revealed. Weaves will depend on how they are fixed.

Why not make a quick examination of the head part of your consultation, if IHM is not appropriate offer an upper back/shoulder/face massage instead.

Yes, and I have (it was one of my case studies!) Obviously some of the moves will need to be adapted slightly such as working on an area, lifting your hands up and moving on rather than through the hair.

The person said it felt wonderful to have IHM, very refreshing!

I agree, I think you just have to alter your finger movement to suit the style of hair.
