ileocaecal valve reflex

Hello, just found this forum and spent all day reading the archives!
I am having trouble with finding this reflex, and each time I ask my tutor and she shows me its in a slightly different place! Last night I had my first practical exam, and was relieved that it went well and I passed it. Everything was great apart from this reflex which this time she said I was just a bit too high from but last week she told me it isnt on the heel line and this time it would have HAD to be for me to have been too high. So I am confused and worried sick about my final exam in 2 weeks cos they are bound to stand over me and check it! Thank you xx

Hi Melsy

First and foremost - take a few deep breaths and try not to stress about it. If you stop focusing on not being able to find it you will instictivley hit the spot.

You will find it at the base of the Ascending Colon Reflex - its the first bit you will work when working the colon reflexes which is just above the heel line.

Remember that everone's feet are different so use your instinct which will be right every time rather than trying to pinpoint the exact spot - sounds like you are doing a pretty good job anyway as you were in the right area both times !

Yes, as suggested, try to relax,all will be fine.To find the illeocecal valve work your way from the 5th metatarsal down towards the heel,working slowly you will find a hollow,may be difficult to find at first but if you practice on yourself it will be easier on the day.

Thank you both very much for your help. I will try it on myself as you suggest, and see if I can't make myself more confident. I think its because it feels like she has contradicted what she told me when I asked that has confused me. I will look for the hollow feeling! Thank you xx
