Massage therapy is a critical element in the human wellness model because touch is the defining ingredient that creates the full human experience.
Touching another person allows us and them to experience being human and being alive.
As technology continues to advance and social distancing becomes the norm, the professionals who are trained to touch people, to massage people, will be in a high-demand professional service for humans.
For 45 years now, I have provided massage therapy services to my clients. The diversity of my business is incredible. My client list includes from active seniors over age 80 to NFL football superstars and Olympic medalists, and all people in between. I love what I do with massage therapy, because touch is a powerful vehicle that delivers compassion and respect to people.
What Massage Does
In a world where artificial intelligence will make decisions for humans, drive and park their cars, cook and clean their homes and ultimately raise their children; in a world without family touch, there will be an even greater need, in the near future, for well-trained touch experts.
The massage therapy session will become the one experience humans can have that will keep them connected to being a human being.
Massage therapyโs role in society has changed rapidly in the last two decades from a leisure and recreational model to a strong wellness model. The massage therapy profession continues to demonstrate its impact through the simplicity of touch and the power of intention.
The massage therapy profession offers a wonderful avenue for caregivers to deliver much-needed experiences of respect and compassion. What all people want to experience, especially when they are in pain or not feeling well, is courtesy, respect, dignity and compassion, all delivered at the highest level of professionalism in a safe environment.
People get better when people care about them. Massage therapists do this as well as any professional in the medical and health care environment โ and often better. When you touch another person, they experience true caring.
When I began massage school in Gainesville, Florida, in 1974 under the guidance of my teacher and mentor, Mr. Bruce Simer, I knew then that this was my mission and my lifeโs work. I will turn 69 this year and plan to continue massaging clients until age 75.
I will continue to mentor and coach massage therapists to develop their passion and commitment to touch and all that massage therapy brings to the human experience on this planet. I am happy and grateful for all that massage therapy has provided me and my clients over these past 45 years.
