In massage, what do they mean when they say "it hurts so good?"?

I have muscle knots, and am thinking about getting a professional massage. One of my friends said it hurts, but in a good way. What does that mean? How will it feel?
To "The Known as Anthony." I'm actually looking for real answers, so if you could take your ignorant a*s as well as your answers elsewhere, it'd be much appreciated.

Some muscle knots resist pressure and "fight back" when you get a firm massage. A good therapist will be able to gradually get those muscles to release their tightness, working them deeper and relaxing the muscle. If your muscles are really tight, then it may hurt a little, but tell the therapist and they can go more slowly and spend more time on those muscles.

Sometimes therapists may ask you to stretch or relax a muscle while they work it... it's all to get the knots out and improve range of motion, relaxation, etc.

Some muscle tightness can be due to bad posture, overuse, or not stretching after a workout. Let your therapist know what your routine is and they'll be able to help more!

oh my where should i even begin..... well first thing you should definitely call your local vet to check and see if your pet chameleon is all fixed up from its tragic motorcycle accident with that circus bear, then go take a cross country trip with 300 Greek men to a place called Seattle and drink some coffee, i would then recommend you ditch the Greek men and go build your self a hut made of the bones of tortoises on the shores of the Baltic sea, if by some chance your butt still is in much pain i would suggest that you go eat some ice cubes and perhaps order some hot wings, another thing would to buy yourself a yeti from the alps.... not the low grade kind from Canada but the alps for christsake, take that yeti for a romantic stroll through the streets on Venice till midnight where you shall break its heart and leave it for a Sasquatch, you and the Sasquatch will go get married and you will never have to use a hair straightener again cause your with a Sasquatch and trust me i know from experience that they are absolutely oblivious when it comes to others hair, by then your butt should be feeling up to speed

Getting your muscles so they aren't knotted shouldn't be painful unless you are doing it wrong. Massage is nice, it makes the top half of your muscle feel real nice, but what about the bottom half? It's still tight and will take the rest of the muscle back into pain unless it's addressed as well. That is why massage keeps people in business, the job was never done right the first time. You can release your own back muscles, do it without pain and do it so they don't come back tomorrow and do it for free, it's your best bet yet. Here is how to release those muscles to get rid of the knots in your back:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
