a spa I used to work at had a pay spilt of 60/40, which is pretty good to begin with. If you made over $500 in sales for a week, the owner would up it to paying employees 65%. she did that for all employees, MTs, manicurists, hair....

Our incentive program is based on length of time employed.

We don't want to force or even encourage therapists to work more than they are comfortable doing. Some of our therapists want to work more, some less. Some work 5hrs/day, some 9hrs....it's their preference.

We still make the same amount per client no matter how many sessions the therapist did that week, so why would it benefit the clinic to have therapists do more massages than they comfortably can?

It is to the clinic's benefit to have therapists stick around for a long time. Clients don't like a lot of turnover. They like to come and see the same therapist. So, we offer incentives to encourange therapists to continue working for us. I've been at the clinic for almost 15yrs, we have another therapist at 14yrs, another one at 12yrs another at over 10yrs. We also have clients who have come to our clinic for just as long. Longterm employees = longterm clients.

Spas often have a commission on retail sales, but I think most MTs are uncomfortable with a retail push. Spa/beauty salons usually aim to get about 50% from retail 50% from treatments, so if someone has a $100 facial you are expected to sell $100 retail to them. It's more difficult with body treatments as it's not quite such a pat face feel how good skin feels must buy product to do this at home feeling, it's I feel so much looser/lighter/taller, the therapist was great rather than the product made me feel great, must buy now often the commission goes up after you've made a target (or you don't get commission until you reach a target)

I don't personally know of anywhere that has an incentive on how many treatments you do (and because of all the reasons moogie303 mentioned) though I think someone on here did mention they had a rebook bonus - that would depend on where you are located, rebook in a tourist area where most of the clients are a one time only tourist visitor would be good, but a rebook bonus where it's a stable client base where everyone rebooks would seem a bit pointless.

I worked at one place that had an incentive type program.

I work on a %/split basis, and that is the norm for my area so it was all based on a split. The therapist always keeps the higher perceneforum.xxxe

1-9 clients a week you got a 60/40 split. 10-15 you got a 65/35 split. 16-20+ you got a 70/30 split. I didn't stay long enough to really learn all the ins and outs of the program, but the other therapists seemed to like it.

I've seen incentive programs based on the number of "regular" clients a person has. After all, that's proof of skill on the part of the MT, and regular clients mean regular income for your business.

I also think it would be a good idea to hire two part-time therapists rather than one full-time therapist. You'll get more flexibility in scheduling; they won't be pressured to overwork and hurt themselves; and it's less risky for you. (If one of them leaves, you still have someone else working while you hire a replacement. If a full-time person leaves without notice, you're stuck up the river without a canoe!)

While I don't have therapists yet, the current idea I have us 70/30 split to a ceiling cap of $7-800 per month. Naturally, this covers laundry and supplies as well.

For non -registered massage practitioners, I provide all the supplies, and for a $35 massage, they take home $25. Fair deal for someone with only one year of school.
