Including your own practice on a resume?

If you have your own practice, and are applying for a job, do you include the fact that you have your own business on your resume? Up until now, I just naturally thought that you would, it is a part of your bodywork experience after all. I have heard people cautioning against it though.

I don't know why not! If the manager/owner of the business you are applying at doesn't like that you are working for yourself, it's best to know that up front. Never be ashamed (or appear ashamed) of owning your own business!

Background checks are very common and routine nowadays. Even the small salon next to my office does a background check on every employee and IC applicant. Anything that turns up on the report that you did not reveal upfront will have to be explained and why. That's probably not a good way to begin a professional relationship even with the best of intentions and innocence all around.

I do have Private Practice listed on my resume. At the last interview I went on, the owner said to me, well you didn't get those clients by stealing them from the places that you have worked! Did you? I told her that my private clients have been long term friends, family, and those that have found me on their own or from word of mouth. So yes, they can get a little paranoid, but I honestly don't know any MT's that don't have a few clients on the side...
