Indian Head Massage - Practical assessment

I am doing the practical IHM assessment in just over a week and wondered if it was compulsory to have used oils yet on case studies and will they expect me to use it in the assessment? Does anyone have an idea?

Hi, i know when i did my pratical and case studdies i had to do a dry IHM, and some withoils and aslo i had to do one pratical where i used massage cream.

In my case studies the second set of 15 treatments must be done with oils.

However, when you have a client, you would probably ask whether they would like you to use oils or not (some don't like it). Perhaps you can do that in your assessment and so the client decides whether you use oils or not?

Maybe it's something that you should ask your tutor as there are different exam boards for IHM, aren't there?

Many thanks all for that, I have to take 2 models with so will check with tutor anyway and can ask the models before they come which they may prefer

Hi Jojo

This year for our NVQ 3 Indian Head we had to 3 practical assessments,
1 for mature client
1 for young
1 to improve scalp condition

It states in our log book that the scalp condition one must be performed with oils to help treat and improve the condition and appropriate oils selected.

It does not stipulate any preferences for the others, but we were always taught that we recieve higher marks for adapting the treatment to suit the individual client. So I would say go with the needs of client and make sure you record everything clearly on the clients record card explain your details for everything.
