Indian music for IHM

Hi there

Does anyone know of indian music suitable for IHM. At yoga our indian teacher has really nice music which is obviously well indian. We asked him before about where he got it and he said it was bits and pieces he'd put together. I find it very relaxing and soothing and would like to find something suitable to play in the background during an IHM session.

There's a CD of indian music that goes on continuously for an hour that my IHM tutor uses. I can get in contact with him to find out what it is if you'd like.

I'm sorry I haven't contacted you sooner about the CD- I have been trying to get in contact with my old tutor, but this is notoriously difficult as he runs retreats in south France and Italy. he seems to spend more time over there these days than teaching in England. Sorry I can't be of help to you....I know he uses a lot of Bliss music, you could try that?

Narendra Metha has just teamed up with Namaste to release a IHM album. Should be out in a few weeks, apparently it's enigma with curry sauce...lol

I recently purchased a very soothing Album called 'Rise' by Anoushka Shankar. I would very much recommend this album.Purchased via i-tunes, you can benefit from a 30 second 'taster' of each track.

Re Co2's post - I have bought the True Champissage album by Namaste from ebay and it is a great blend of indian music with something a bit tranquil for a treatment. However, it is also more uptempo than other things I have so not too tranquil! Bad description, but I can highly recommend it for IHM, one of my clients really enjoyed it.

I have a number of CD's by a lady called Imee Ooi. They were a present from a friend who loves to travel. They are of various mantras and all sung in Sanskrit. One in particular is called Om Mani Padme Hum which is a continious mantra. I use it for IHM and its really soothing and relaxing. The website for Imee is www.immmusic.com.

I've put together my own montage of Indian music on my MP3 player, its stored as a playlist and is about 45 mins duration. Some tracks I've taken from 'Tigers of the Raj' by James Asher and some I've taken from Chilled Ibiza - 'Traveller' by Kid Loco and Talvin Singh and 'Immigrant' by Nitin Sawhney. It's paced so that it starts of quite upbeat for the back massage strokesand then very relaxing soothing tracks for the head and face massage and then a bit more upbeat again to bring the client back into the land of the living, LOL. I find it very easy, now, to pace my treatment and keep to time without needing to check my watch as I know roughly where I should be with each section of music.

I find it easy to transport all my therapy and meditation music around on my MP3 and I use a portable speaker set with it which plugs into the mains. It takes up very little room (it packs neatly away into a 6" x 4" vanity bag) and I don't have to worry about changing or restarting CD's during treatment as the music plays continuously.
