Does anyone know any really helpful moves for infant massage, i had infant and child massage in school, but i would like the opinion of someone that does a lot of infant/child massages. What they seem to like if one thing more than the other.
Does anyoney have any moves for uterin pain, my friend has a daughter that just had twins friday, and is having pain in uterus like there is still a baby moving around in there, and feeling like contractions? Any help is very much appreciated! Thanks-

First of all your friend needs to contact her doctor. There usually is some contraction of the tissue to push out the remaining endometrial lining, but usually it is minor and it shouldn't feel any worse than a normal menstral cycle. Did she have a C-section or was it a natural birth? I would be concerned because if there was any hemmoraging or any placental tissue left in there it can cause severe problems.

I agree- if she has concerns, she needs to call her Dr. the uterus keeps contracting after the baby is born- especially when its nursing time- this is, like what Pandoras_Gift said, expelling the endometrial lining and returning the uterus back to normal size. It can feel a bit sharp sometimes, when nursing, but it only lasts a few moments.

She has been to her Dr. not sure what he really said but her mom says they are going back in a couple days. I told her to go back to the Dr. too.
I know she was nursing but she quit nursing, too sensitive for her.

From what we learned with infant massage is you just let them roll around while you rub them, dont ever hold them down or in any way restrict them. My baby is 5 months old and I thought he would LOVE massage, and he does but only for a few minutes. I do however do stomach massage on him because babies tend to get constipated, especially if they are formula fed. Just rub genlty in a clockwise circular motion following the colons. I got this really great baby massage book that came with a onesie with different strokes drawn on it and how to do it. It was so cute, wish I could remember what it was called

When we did infant massage they were moving around at first but by the time you get done with the first foot they are pretty much mesmorized they just lay there and let you massage them. That is what my experience has been with infants, but i have only done a few. But commenting on the not holding them down, that wouldn't be very relaxing and that is the whole point

Any oil is good, so long as it's organic. It's also a good idea to rotate oils, so baby doesn't develop a sensitivity to one that's used too much. A good oil to start with is organic Jojoba oil. As for baby massage, this company produces high-quality instructional DVD's:

I realize that I am posting much much later then the question was asked but I wanted to respond to this just in case someone else is asking a question about these pains. After a woman has a baby, she will experience cramping that feel like contractions. There is a purpose to this and it is to shrink the uterus back to the size it was prior to carrying babies. I have two children and after my first child the cramps were not really much of anything but after my second child they were so very painful, I had to stop what I was doing and just breathe. They generally come during the time of breast feeding due to the fact that breast feeding stimulates the release to a hormone that triggers the contractions, which is yet another reason that breast feeding is great!

Of course if there are concerns ask your care giver(ie midwife or OBGYN) but these cramps are pretty normal and necessary.
