Hey there...I am an mpa located in Hamilton, Ontario and am thinking of relocating to Vancouver. I am curious to know what the bylaws are like out west; how restrictive they are, what quality the massage spas are like, etc. In places like Mississauga and Brampton the bylaw specifically allows for topless, nude or nude-reverse massage, and I am hoping it is the same in either Vancouver or Victoria. Also, what is the standard in tipping? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

From my understanding, the City of Van. is not issuing anymore licenses for mp's. In order to open, you must buy an existing parlour, (no more zoning for new mp's), have a massage certificate from an "approved school", and do a police record search. There are so many, that the city had to cap the number. I could be wrong, but that is what I have heard. Good luck in the future. As for tipping, the amount varies from mp to mp, depending on a number of different factors. Hope this info is helpful.

You are right Desidio. Burnaby still is, but the cost of licencing is ten times Vancouver's. A typical licence in Burnaby is about $3K.

BTW, I see that the ownership change at Diamond didn't work out. Will it re-open in the future?

I'm not too sure what is going on at Diamond at the present time. I speak to the owner occasionaly, but since I am now his competition, in a friendly manner of course, (I have bought my own mp), we don't really speak about business out of respect for each other. But from my understanding, Diamond may re-open in the near future, but not sure if it will be under the current or new owner.

Vancouver is always in need of good value quality type of mp.

It is true the mp here does much better here than in Toronto or its suburb.

I guess there was a bit of a misunderstanding...I'm not looking to potentially open a massage parlour, just to work as an attendant at a licenced, clean, upscale parlour..or maybe perhaps as an independant. Any additional info is appreciated. Thanks for all the info guys!

Sorry about the misunderstanding, oop's, there are many mp's that you could be an attendant at. My best advice would be to do your homework. It all depends on what you are looking for. Vancouver has many mp's, some very reputable and some not so reputable. From what I hear, the mpa's in Vancouver do make more than the one's in Ontario, but once again, that depends on the mp that you are working in. As far as the by-laws work, they vary from burb to burb, prices vary from location to location,(usually from $80 - $400 for 1hr f/s) depending on the location, as does the cleanliness.
