A friend of mine wants to open a Chinese massage / spa - R&T but probably no FS.
She does not know the laws/risks etc of providing this service (R&T) and asked me to help. Well, other than being very familliar with what goes on inside thse places I really don't know what is legal and what is not and what the risks are.
If ahyone can help me out or point me to where I can find the info I would reall appreciate it.

go and visit a few. I mean go for a massage. It will cost you about a dollar a minute for the massage. during the massage you may or not be offered "extras". you can use your imagination what those extras are.

I wouldn't waste my time on other people's quasi legal advice... If your friend wants to really investigate this properly, tell them to talk to a lawyer. The $200 an hour meeting will be well worth the price to avoid any future legal issues.

Richmann, even if your friend only wants her ladies to do R&T she really will have no idea what is going on behind closed doors.

It seems like Richmann's friend is interested in opening a store-front AMP and not a micro. Simon's is definitely not a storefront.

My first advice (since I know almost nothing about the legality of it) is to look at buying an already existing AMP/beauty salon. My lady friend in SF went this route and has been doing very well. In less than a year owning the business she has had offers to sell which would give her a quick 50% profit on her original investment. But, it is so much different now with the crackdown 3 months ago. All the poplar AMP's are now struggling so much of the talent has shifted to the TAMP's (therapeutic, or supposed to be).

These places are under the Health department jurisdiction, so they can slip by on a lot of things the police will not tolerate. Also, they only employ legals whereas the AMP's (brothels) had many illegal Koreans.

Not a business to get into on a whim.

Good point, although my only worry would be that a lawyer may be in the dark about quasi-regulated industries like this. Of course, there are probably bylaws that the lawyer would have an advantage in reading. But I wonder how much case law and judicial interpretation there is on such issues. It's a bit of a hidden industry. (can you imagine... "Hendersen Sellars LLP: Technology law and massage parlour licensing for YOUR business").

I'd almost be tempted to talk to an accountant who does book-keeping for such a firm. I'm not sure how many lawyers are versed in the law of rub and tugs, but I'm sure there's a MP or two that uses outside help for its accounting. Maybe ask around. Or just go to a MP, have a long session and chat up the manager afterwards.

My advise to that person is she/he willing do their home work on business. Anyone can buy a existing business or lease a suitable space to renovate. But the basic question is still are they really know how to run a business. Basic rent, additional rent, license fee, all the fire/health inspection, occupancy/building permit if they do renovation.Then, staff problem, advertising, payroll, TAXES- corporate, GST,EI, etc.There are so many things one has to face if they operate a legit business( not a micro).
To find any existing business to buy,takeover, or place to lease, the best bet is to get a realtor to look for it. Then have a good lawyer to go through the lease and licensing procedure. Trust me don't go cheap on legal advise. Find out all those what if questions and answers.
I personally know that kind of business is very hard to keep it up for long due to staff problem. It is not that easy to find new girls locally and you don't want to get caught with illegal workers. Without new supply business will slip and it is a hard business to earn good money. However there are exceptions, such as Swan, Kingdom- they might have gone through a few close downs but still operate by the same people.

Have your "freind" work in a massage parlour for a couple of months. For instance, Wendy at JJ massage in richmond could teach her loads. Or working for Swan or Hyett in Burnaby. After doing a rub and a tug or sucking cock and FS for a couple of months your freind will be a pro.

She is working in a legit spa at the moment that does massage as well as other services - no R&T allowed - I believe it is along these lines that she would like to open but including R&T.
I don't believe she wants to open an AMP like JJ's or Swan. Maybe more like Regent on Granville or Angel on Oak. Maybe I will suggest she get hired on at one of these or one like them. It is the leagalities?consequences of doing R&T that she is nervous of.

Is your friend attractive? I can say that the most important thing to consider for her is that the girls have to look good and be priced well! This will create a regular cliental like swan does and therefore will be successfull!

the laws are pretty relax and she should look for some loop holes as there are alot! I would like to be her first customer if she wants to work on her R/T skills as well!
