InJoy Wellness Massage Center recently held a grand opening at 775 Monroe St, in the building that formerly housed Sweet Potato Pie, which went out of business.
InJoy Wellness owner Tresa Beaver said InJoyโs services include personal training, life coaching, vegan and vegetarian tips, tarot card reading and massage therapy.
โNot just one model of healing works for everyone,โ Beaver said.
She started InJoy with a $30,000 loan from a friend, and spent about $6,000 to $7,000 renovating both the first and second floors of the building, Beaver said.
She completed most of the remodeling herself, with the aid of several friends, Beaver said, including a handcrafted reception desk.
Beaver said the business is the culmination of a lifelong dream.
โIโve always had a vision to support healthy lifestyle choices,โ said Beaver, who grew up in the Springfield area. After her father died, she said, she used the inheritance to buy a massage table and become licensed in therapy.
โIโve been growing this practice in an organic way,โ Beaver said.
Beaver holds a degree in psychology and training in massage therapy, planetary coaching and shamanic work. She said her approach is to connect massage with elements of physical and emotional healing.
InJoy Wellness offers a table massage, foot massage, chair massage and foot soaking spa. Traditional table massage prices range from $45 to $150, on a 30-minute to 90-minute spectrum.
The store also rents out the top floor to regular classes and wellness workshops. One upper room is reserved for tarot card readings, while two others are meant for massage therapy.
In both the upstairs and downstairs InJoy combin wellness services with an ongoing art gallery, hosting pictures from two rotating artists.
Beaver said she works with several local nutritionists, personal trainers, life coaches and massage therapists on a need basis.
By March, she hopes to expand the business, putting in a five-station foot bar for additional foot massage and pedicures.
