Help please.  I am going to have an interview with a chiropractor but I'm so nervous.  I don't really know what to expect.  If you work with a chiropractor what is it like?  How are you paid or how much rent do you pay?

If you work with a chiropractor what is it like?  How are you paid or how much rent do you pay?

I am working a few nights a week for a chiropractor.
I work 3-4 hour shift and am booked back to back.
I am paid a perceneforum.xxxe per massage and get a paycheck every 2 weeks.
The Dr. supplies the room, table, decorations and stereo.  His office makes the appointments and bills the insurance.
I supply sheets, cream, marketing items, and any other misc. supplies that I need.
I am an Independent Contractor at his office so I pay my own taxes, but since I am self-employed I have to do this anyway.  

Questions you may want to ask:

Do they have fees set for massage right now?  What are they?  Decide what you would want to make per massage.  

Pay arrangement? (IC, employee, or Renter)

If, IC or employee, what will they be providing you? (base your pay off this)

I am not sure how being an employee works or if that is even a normal arrangement.  But, I included it anyway.

Insurance payment arrangement: Will you be paid regardless of what the insurance pays?  What if you are a renter?  I get paid regardless of what the insurance company does.

How many massages in a day?  To determine how busy you will be (is it worth taking the job) and to establish how many you will want to do in a day.

What hours?  Most chiropractors close mid-day and reopen later, what will be happening for you at this time if you work all day?

What will be expected of you?

Don't be nervous. If anything, this is a mutual agreement, not one-sided; so you (in a sense) are doing just as much of the interviewing as the chiropractor is. Feel free to ask any question that comes to your mind as I'm sure it's just and necessary to learn all you can (especially if this is your first time renting a room from a chiropractor).I'm in the process of working out a contract with a chiropractor who I met recently. When I went to meet with him, we both asked/answered each others questions. It was a new thing for both of us (him to rent to an M.T. and me to rent from a chiro). They will just be as nervous about this as I am until we both get comfortable working with/around one another.Be well,Jen

I worked for a chiropractor my first year out of school and it was a great experience.  I learned quite a lot.  The 2 practices are very complementary.  Be aware that some chiros out there want you to do a standard 30 mini rubdown on everyone before their adjustments, which can be boring and not so rewarding, while others really respect your ability to help facilitate healing.  It is usually easier to get clients to come every week or every month, since chiros usually accept insurance, making it easier to build a respected clientele flow.  Most will pay around 45%, and cover the cost of all your supplys from my experience.  This really is pretty fair if you figure the business expenses you would have on your own.  My chiro even had a laundry service...This is huge, saving me hours of laundry every night.  Good luck!
