I am not a huge fan of country either but love just about every other genre, so maybe since we have similar tastes you will like this artist. Try listening to Neko Case. My friend tricked me into listening to country with her and now I love her music. Her lyrics are very beautiful and her music is not the annoying pop/country you hear everywhere, it's more folk/country.
