introducing a kitten to a cat?

hey everyone! so i have a four year old male cat. he can be a little punkish at times but i just got a 8 week old kitten and i was wondering what the best way it to introduce them.

my four year old cat has smelt the kitten and has seen her but the kitten is in her "safe" room. i know it may take up to a week to get them to feel comfortable with each other.

and i know its pretty normal for my cat to hiss at first. (which he has already) he seems a ltitle scared of her and doesnt really know what to make of it.

any advice would be appreciated... esp from those who have done this in the past.

Don't interfere.
After the initial 'sparring' they should settle down together.
Remember that your older cat is really scared of the kitten, because in their world there will be a mother around who will attack anything that may harm her baby.
This may not be the situation in your case, but it is an INBRED instinct for them.
Just leave them alone. They will be great friends very soon.
I have two neutered cats (Male & Female) and there are times when he jumps on her , making her scream..
Then 5 mniutes later, she is by his side, licking him and purring loudly.
So if they DO have a "Spat" don't read too much into it.
It may only be their way of saying - "Not now, We'll play later."
When meal times come around she (small) pushes him (BIG) away so that she gets first pick.
I tried giving them separate bowls but she still pushes him away.
