Introducing a kitten to a cat?

I have just recently gotten a 7-Week old kitten and already have a 3-Year old cat. The cat doesn't like the kitten all that much but the kitten doesn't seem to mind the cat. Today the kitten got about half a foot away from the cat and the cat lashed out, but luckily the kitten's fine. There was no barrier between the two either. Does anyone have any tips or help to make the two tolerate each other and not lash out? Both are females.

It will take some getting used to. I'd recommend separating them when you can't be right there to supervise. I got my kitten when my cat was a year and a half and the kitten stayed in his little cage a lot. I would only crate the cat when I let the kitten out to run, but not for long. Make sure your cat feels like she still is queen bee. After a while, they will adjust. Now I have three female cats and they have been a group for a year and they still hiss at each other once in a while but they also cuddle together sometimes. It will never be perfect, but once the kitten is big enough to stick up for herself it wont be as bad.

Give them time. But sometimes it doesn't alway work out and they'll always hate each other.

be there to supervise when they are both in the same room, never leave them in the same room alone. Until the kitten grows, even then make sure the older cat is Ok with the kitten.

Give them time to get used to eachother...it took about 3 days for my cat to get used to the kitten...make sure you are beside the older cat as the kitten approaches so you can diffuse any altercation that might arise...keep reassuring the older cat that your place is still it's home
