Introducing My Cat To Outside, Again..?

Well, I am moving and where I lived is less than a mile away, however is not on the same street. He is an outside cat & I want to get him used to my new house, which also has a cat in it and a few cats in the neighborhood.

I want to let him outside again at some point, but I am afraid he will run back to where I lived previously. Is there anything I can do to stop this or to make him feel more at home here? Tips and advice will also suffice.

This is a good time to make him an indoor cat. Indoor cats live longer and are much healthier.

Outside cats face the risks of cat fights, unfriendly dogs, wildlife, poisons, diseases, getting hit by car, etc!

Keep him inside for about 20 days, give or take. Let him out only when directly supervised and start feeding him outside, Gradually increase the time left outside unsupervised. Figure on two -three months tops.

Before you do anything, have him micro-chipped (if he isn't already) and up to date on shots. If he will agree to it, try getting a collar complete with a current id (include the current date, so if anyone finds him, they will know how old the id is). A current license is a must.

Consider going back to your old house and alerting the new owners as to your situation . Give them your phone number so they can contact you if your cat ever returns to his old home.

As the first person said, you should probably make him an inside cat. Atleast until you get him fixed.
If he's not fixed, inside, if there are other male cats around and female cats he will "spray" and this can be very bad for your health and your home.
If he is spayed, just gradually introduce him to outside again, taking him out for a little bit in a area that's secure and he wont run off.

I don't think he will run off to your other home.
