My husband and I adopted a 17 month old Great Dane a couple of weeks ago. We also have 2 doves and 2 lionhead rabbits. Our dog has been around a teacup yorkie her whole life and never had any problems. She also gets along with all of my friends' dogs, including a teacup chihuahua. My problem is that she is constantly trying to get into the room where I've had to temporarily move the rabbits. I'm not observing any aggression, just curiosity from her. I would like to move my bunnies back downstairs where they've always been, and let them roam around like they're used to doing throughout the day, but my dog is so excited about them that I'm afraid she may hurt the rabbits unintentionally. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about getting my pets acclamated to each other so they can all have the proper attention and playtime? Any realistic ideas would be welcome. I know that Danes are known to adopt pets for themselves. I've seen them take care and mother baby kittens, even letting them nurse if needed, and I would love to see all of my "kids" get along with each other. Thanks for the input.
