introducing myself and starting a chat! 10 points best answer!?

these days i'm looking for a girlfriend, but the more i read on internet sites and articles, the more confused i get, because, well, girls are all different.

i am always friendly, introduce myself with a light handshake and a smile and say something like,

"hi i'm ...... nice to meet you, how are you" with eye contact and a smile, which i think comes across as being maybe too gentlemanly and formal, but most girls seem to like it.

but i find it hard after this to have something to say outside of the usual boring topics. i don't want to sit and flatter someone or be overly nice, but at the same time i don't want to be detached and seem like i'm not interested. any advice?

well i know you say you dont want to start the usual topics but ull have to lol. you want to get to know them you want them to know you, you introduce yourselfs then you go on to ask summet like so how has your week been....let her reply and say then tell her how your week has been then say summet like your plans for the next week see hat she replies sooner or later ur convo will be flowing ur doing right being formal and nice because so many sleezey guys just want sex and ask right away and as a girl i bloody hate that so ur doing good xx

Well, small talk is not always the easiest thing to make. You probably know by now that people likes talking about themselves. Even if they are shy. (the shy ones just need a little more probing).
It helps asking open-ended questions - questions which do not require a "yes/no" answer, but which forces people to elaborate on it.
I would suggest you think of a few "start-off" questions before hand which you can use to ask every time you meet someone. Ones that will just get an initial conversation flowing. From there - just ask the person out as much as you can about themselves. Girls like guys who pays attention to them and looks interested in them and what they are saying.
Personally, i go nuts about a guy who can crack a little joke as soon as i meet him, who has got an open face and who looks alive and interested in everything around him. Eye contact and smiling is good, seems like you greet with confidence. The best advice for situations like this is to be yourself and to be relaxed. If you come across as confident, relaxed and open to talk to, then other people will immediately feel comfortable around you and also feel more comfortable making conversation with you. Also, if you pay attention to what someone is saying, it allows you to ask them to elaborate on anything specific they said.

Try asking the girl about herself, people like to talk about themselves.
Then answer hers. If she doesn't ask about you, that's really odd, lol.
I don't usually wait for the guy if I liked him, I would giggle, tease him and try to make him feel less awkward. Perhaps you need to find someone who's more initiative.
