BTW it also helps if you haven't been drinking heavily. Mexican police always pull some BS when they know you're tipsy. I usually avoid drinking at all if in unfamiliar surroundings or am with a group of clients. Good luck and remember to stay safe.

Nobody likes to get stopped and searched. I think more than avoiding it, it is best to educate yourself on how to deal with it. My general rules are:

Be firm but polite
Take ownership of your money...if they ask to see it allow them to see it as you fan it out...don't allow them to touch it...maybe they want to see if you are hididng something in your money(probably not, but that can be an excuse for you to let them handle it)
don't pay any mordidas(bites, bribes) for trumped up charges like a ED pill
I tell them I will see the judge with a smile...In my zona and centro shakedowns, I have never seen a judge and never paid a bribe

I did see a judge on another matter, but you coldn't call that a random shakedown

I agree with Sampsonrico. I noticed cops
have been searching mongers more often
lately. I have a few suggestions. Take
more cabs. The walk to the Zona is loaded
with cops and you will get stopped and
searched nowadays. Do Not linger around
the Zona. By walking around you put yourself
in a position to get searched by the cops as
I have noticed they have a presence in and
around the alleys of AB and the zona. Always
be aware of your surroundings and be on guard
when you are in TJ. I personally think $$$$$$
is too much to carry and I usually carry $$$ and
I always hold all of my cash in my hand while
being searched and NEVER let the cop handle
my cash. I am also about 6'1 and 200lbs and
look like a Marine Sergeant so they usually dont
try to pull any weird shit.

to clarify the cop put the money in my hand then after he went through the rest of my pockets he took the money out of my hand. when he touch my money i tightened my grip on it but he pulled it out anyway. Maybe next time I'll try sampsons suggestion.

I think I am not going to TJ anymore. I was this weekend but I have been reading alot on how these cops stop us more often. I remember when I had no problems with the cops when going to TJ often back 7 years ago. I even found another forum which has a separate forum just for TJ cops...

What is going on? It must be a pitiful situation now to go there if you are single trying to get some. Do they know that if they keep doing this, less and less mongers like myself will go down there?

Well, I might just take my chances and go there....if I get stopped and questioned, I am going to protest...I want to....and tell them your policies are hurting the tourism.

I actually know someone who is in office in Mexico ( a very small political office ). I think I am going to talk to him to plead not to bother you fellow mongers....

Here is where you went wrong....Never let them touch your money...they don't need to as you are not buying anything from them....I have been searched more times than I want to remember, but I always pull out my money and keep it in one hand.

Although I have been a member for awhile I normally don't post here but, I went to TJ last night for a little get away. I had hit all my normal bars and was making my normal rounds to see which SW i wanted. when i got to the street above the alley on the north west corner I was stopped by to of TJ's finest they asked me if i had drugs r marijuana I told them no, they patted me down and took out my money and put it in my hand, now i had $600 dollars on me but i only had $260 in my pocket (the rest i hide in a little pocket i had sewn in my pullover jacket liner) anyway, while i am talking to one cop the other is counting my money. then he gives it back to me and tells me to count it, i do aan am $40 short he ask me if it's o.k. and not wanted to end up in trouble or with something planted on me or in jail i say yes. then the M**therF**ckers leave. It pissed me off to the highest level of pisstivity.

My question is did I handle this right? should i have said "NO F**cker give me the rest of my money" or is this just the price of being in a foreign place?
