I am considering going to massage therapy school to break into the massage therapy profession. I have been working in customer service for a software company since I graduated from college last May (2009) and I am really unhappy here (not sure if I'm made for corporate America, haha.) I think that the opportunity for flexibility in my work schedule and feeling that I'm actually making an impact for people would go a long way for me in terms of my happiness when it comes to work.
I became interested in massage therapy before I got my current job, and I've been told I have "good hands" and give good massages from my family members. I have my bachelor's degree in Communication Studies and I'm just trying to get more information about whether going to school for this would be a good choice for me. It would obviously be an investment to pay for the schooling ($7,000 - $12,000 at two Northern Virginia schools I've looked at so far) and supplies needed so I want to make sure I'm thinking this through. Is it sensible for me to pursue this as a career after already having obtained my college degree? Is it realistic that I'll be able to get a job after graduating from massage therapy school (I'm currently thinking that I would want the experience of working in a spa or salon initially, ultimately branching out into my own practice)? Any insight you could give me would be greatly appreciated as I'm evaluating things. Thanks!
