Is a noob the same thing as a newbie?

So i barely got this fps game called battlefield bad company 2 and i started playing yesterday. Like on the first match I played people started calling me a noob because I wasnt getting much kills, but at least I was trying.I tried telling them i was a newbie but they said i was "making up excuses". So is a newbie a noob?

Generally, they are both the same thing. Newb basically is just short for "newbie", or new player. A noob is basically the same thing, but is also annoying, and uses cheap tactics to win games. A lot of people however, just say noob to anyone who is really bad AND uses cheap strategies to win, or to anyone that is on their nerves BECAUSE they are winning. So, generally they are the same thing, but when you get into specifics, they really aren't.Why?
Because when you're a noob, it just means you suck at the game, you don't necessarily have to be new, but when you're a newb, then you're new, but you don't necessarily have to suck either.

Yep. Noob is a fun way of saying newbie. lol but it's still offensive... everyone's a noob at some point.

Depends really.
On how it's used. For instance, if you're playing for example Call of Duty
and you bust out the Grenade launcher A.K.A NoobTube, they are going to call you a noob because
you're getting kills, in a non-challenging way, making it in their eyes, unfair.
Doesn't mean you are new to the game, or a newbie. You're just making people angry and they are using a outdated, and non-clever insult.
But if someone says, "Give him a break, he's a noob." they mean you're a newbie.
