Is Holistic massage a pre requisite?

Hi,

I love reflexology! I havent been trained, but have been reading books for years & practing on family members & giving myself treatments.

I would like to study professionaly & become a reflexologist. I have been looking at courses but im unsure of which one to do. I would like to undertake a course that comprehensive but also affordable

Ive seen an ITEC course at a college which is very cheap but you have to complete ITEC holistic massage. I have seen other courses which do not ask for the massage but they are 10 x more expensive that the oforementioned course!

Any advice is apprieciated.

the ITEC courses are modula now, so you should be able to do the reflexology course.

however...

alongside it, you will also have to do Anatomy and Physiology and Professional Conduct/ Business Awareness as further modules.

most places that offer holistic massage include the A & P, Pro conduct as one course over 30 or so weeks. bearing in mind that the reflexology on its own is a 30 week course that should lead you to conclude that there is alot more involved in reflexology.

hmmm what i am trying to say is, its probably better to do the holistic massge first, it gives you a therapy and the A & P etc bit, then do the reflexology. yes it'll take 2 years but you'll then have 2 disciplines.

only you can know your capacity for study though.

you are better off asking the college itself. when I did my itec reflexology their was some people with no other therapy knowledge. but things may have changed since then.

Maybe try a VTCT course as there is no pre-massage requirement for that as far as i know.

Hi, AOR courses incorporate anatomy & physiology within the course content so this may be your best bet and you could be qualified in under a year. If you go on their website it lists all AOR accredited courses in the country. Some are private schools and therefore can be pricey but some local authorities run AOR courses at a fraction of the price so it's best to check out all courses within the areas you are willing to travel to as you may find a big difference in prices (as I did).
