Is honesty really the best policy?

Honesty is the best policy . But is this really the fact of life ? If we look to some famous politicians, some billionaires......etc, we can see lots of holes in their lives.
I think honesty is the best policy only if you have a human conscience.
What do you think?

I have found (through mistakes, headaches, and heartbrakes) that honesty is the best policy if you value a life that is as drama-free as can be.

I hate fucking drama, and the best way to avoid it in my opinion is to be honest and own your fuck ups.

I had a first year professor who once told the class: "Honesty is not the best policy when dealing with human relationships. If you don't believe me, wait until you are married and your wife asks you Does this dress make me look fat? or Did you like the dinner I made tonight? or Do you find any of your students attractive?" uch:

Of course in everyday non-relationship issues, I agreee honesty is usually the best policy.

Yup, honesty IS the best policy but not brutally honest.

For example: if you and your lady friend are going out for a fancy dinner and she comes out wearing something totally unappropriate, you don't say "hey you idiot, we're going somewhere FANCY not to an orgy"....

You say: hey hon? That's really hot but I think where we're going it is a little more reserved. How about you put on that LBD that you like so much?

I made the mistake once of commenting on a GFs new shoes that she was so excited about. I called them "pilgrim shoes".....3 yrs later I was still hearing about it......

But be forewarned: even when you're being honest a LOT of people think you're lying or BSing them...just because so many people do......

I left a company who continually and constantly had us lie to our customers and suppliers and I just couldn't stomach it.

No question about it. Otherwise you have to remember when and what your lies where which is hard to do.

As unfortunate as it is, I totally agree with FT. Any parent that has perpetuated the Santa Clause or the Tooth Fairy fantasies has lied but an acceptable white lie as FT pointed out. Another example: your SO comes home with a new dress, puts it on and asks you how does it look? In reality it makes her look fat, would you dare tell her that?:whip:
