Is it bad to tell a girl you really like her/ask her out with a text or chat message?

i really like a girl, ive known her for 2 years, i think that she knows i like her, i want to tell her this, but we are rarely together alone, 99% of the time we are with a group of people, we always text each other or talk on facebook, so i thought it would be easier just to do it that way, would that be a bad idea?

Why not ask her out to hang alone; then why not tell her? I know you may have really strong feelings for her, but if you show how dedicated you are to be authentic, I think she'll take it more seriously.

its not a BAD idea, its just it would probably mean more to her if you told her in person, make her feel more meaningful y'know? i think if you NEVER get the chance and you HAVE to tell her then go ahead, but what i would do is wait for the perfect time, when you'r alone. or if you'r never alone together just tell the world that has got to make her feel amazing.
