Is it hard for a man to be a massage therapist?

I hear they get discriminated against alot, and people sometimes assume they are gay. It's one of my possible careers choices and I was just wondering if I would have to deal with this.

This is an old fashioned issue in my opinion. As long as you are knowledgeable and professional you will succeed in any field. Massage, like any health profession is a matter of choice, and clients will come to you if they hear that you are great at massage, are very professional, and love what you do. I have worked with, worked on, and been worked on, by many different male and female therapists. Everyone has a unique style, a niche preference, and they are all very happy with what they do.

Yep. You are discriminated against, people assume you're gay, and you have a hard time getting clients. Neither straight men nor women for the most part want males.

Also, every single male I know has been falsely accused of sexual misconduct by some crazy female client who either has been abused or wanted more attention and didn't get it. There's really nothing you can do to protect yourself against it. It's devastating both personally and professionally.

There is always a double standard for men in all health care settings. I have spent more than two decades in a position that involved a lot more intimacy with female clients than they will get in a massage and it means you have to become very aware of the risks and very professional and matter of fact in your dealings with it.

It is not impossible to function but it is harder- no questions asked. You have problems on both sides of the aisle. Women who fear you will molest them and women who want you to.
