Is it normal for a man to get an erection during a professional massage session?

This has happened a few times over the years and I would like to know if it is influenced by the massage itself. It happens when she works on areas near my groin, naturally, and I am not thinking anything sexual. It just happens.

The times it has happened, I try to make it subside and end up ruining my massage and being relaxed, because I do not want to offend the therapist.

I have never asked her if it is normal, as it seems it would be a taboo topic.

If there are any LMT's out there that can offer a genuine answer, I would appreciate it. (No judgements or smart remarks...this is Yahoo Answers, not Yahoo Ridicule.) What is the etiquette and how should I handle this in the future.

It's totally normal and when massage therapists go through classes they are told that it may happen.

I was a LMT for 6.5 years and I can tell you with certainty that it is absolutely normal. The topic is addressed in school, so she would know coming out into the real world that it WILL happen. If you are to the point that you are so uncomfortable with it that it is ruining your massage, then i would either address the situation with her before your next session, or find another therapist. If she is a true professional then she will have no difficulties talking to you about having an erection and assuring you that it is fairly common. If she is offended by a man getting an erection on the table, then she won't be a therapist for long, or she will see exclusively female patients.

My advice - don't worry about it and enjoy your massage!!

it is natural. you are a man and someone is down there. just try to think of something that would totally not turn you on. like your mom, or hanging with your guys friends playing video games. and hopefully it will combat the situation. good luck

It's normal. Real embarrassing, but normal. As a guy you should know that we get erections at the drop of a hat. If your uncomfortable, get massages from a gay masseur. Then it won't bother you.
