Is shiatsu massage something a Christian should avoid?

I've heard the origins of shiatsu are connected with New Age religions. Lots of talk about channeling invisible energy and such. It sounds like something I should avoid as a Christian. What do you think?

By the way, some people say it's no big deal. As long as it works okay for you, but you don't believe in all that New Age stuff, then "what's the harm"? I don't subscribe to that type of thinking. I believe there is a constant battle going on in the spriritual realm, and the more you associate yourself with things that may have connections to evil spirits and such, then you are putting yourself at more risk of spiritual attacks and oppression.

Shiatsu is a for of massage which is about balancing the energy flow in the body. It is utterly brilliant. One of the great advantages is that the client is fully dressed, unlike Swedish massage. Also no oils are needed.

Now if you are too imprisoned by your 12c beliefs to enjoy the obvious and definite (now well researched) benefits of shiatsu, that is your loss.

Frankly the biggest "risk of spiritual attacks and oppression" is your own blinkered and dangerous thinking.

As a massage therapist, I think taking care of our bodies is perfectly within the bounds of what God would want for His children.

Also, people only fear what they don't understand.

Now I'm obviously going to be very biased because I am a massage therapist, but as a Christian I don't think there is anything wrong with shiatsu or any type of energy work. It's not satanic and is only used as a healing therapy. It's very much like laying on of hands and is used to channel energy from above.
